Sends notices of property values and anticipated tax bills each January
Informs taxpayers of available tax exemptions in these notifications
Sends renewal notices for existing exemptions as required by law
Provides welcome packages to new property owners with information on notifications

The department understands the desire and agrees with the proactive average to property owners.

And we implement this approach in several of our practices.

Each January, the Department of Finance sends out notices of property values Based on the tentative assessment rule.

This informs property owners of their property value and their anticipated overall tax bill.

Within this notification, the department informs the taxpayer of tax exemptions that they can apply for.

Secondly every recipient of an exemption receives a notice in the mail as required by law.

When the exemption is up for renewal accompanied by instructions on how to renew.

Lastly, DOF sends new property owners a welcome package with information on how to sign up for notifications, including for family members.

From the administrator's perspective, we believe our current practices are the better vehicle for communicating all of this critical information.
