The Department of Social Services is launching a capacity building workshop series to help local restaurants and catering companies develop large-scale food service capabilities. This initiative aims to diversify and strengthen the vendor ecosystem for shelter food services.

Workshops will begin in March, focusing on business development for potential vendors
The series will involve representatives from various city agencies and departments
Topics include understanding requirements and resources for successful operations
Mentorship opportunities will be provided, connecting local businesses with successful certified contractors
The series will culminate in a matchmaking event between vendors, providers, and agency representatives

In line with the administration's goals of building a robust ecosystem of vendors and serving as a strong partner in M and WBE's success, the DSS marketplace team is launching a capacity building workshop series in March.

This series aims to help local restaurants and catering companies interested in adding business development component to enable them to execute large scale food service capabilities and potentially set them up for contracts.

The series is designed to strengthen the business's ability to engage with New York City agencies, human service providers, and prime contract holders.

The workshops will bring firms together with representatives from mayor's office of food policy, the health department, and the department of social services program and nutrition staff, as well as the department of small business services for detailed guidance that will help these local organizations better understand the requirements and resources that impact firms' ability to operate successfully in this space.

It will include extensive q and a with subject matter experts and later it will involve programming that will leverage mentorship, bringing local restaurants and cater companies together with successful certified contractors and nonprofit providers who are currently performing contracts to again create that learning network and sharing of resources.
