Commissioner Aggarwala outlines several major infrastructure projects underway to maintain and improve New York City's water supply system.
- DEP is investing in the resilience of the century-old water supply system.
- Key projects include:
- $1.1 billion for work at the Hillview Treatment Facility
- $1.7 billion for the Kensico Eastview Tunnel
- $1 billion for the Ashokan Century program to upgrade infrastructure at the Ashokan Reservoir
- The department maintains 7,000 miles of water mains with one of the lowest break rates in the country (5-6 breaks per 100 miles compared to the national average of 25).
