Council Member Áviles inquires about the number of extremely low-income (ELI) projects currently in HPD's pipeline. Acting Commissioner Tigani explains that most of their projects include tiers of extra low and low-income units, rather than being exclusively ELI projects.

  • HPD's projects typically include a mix of income tiers, including extra low and low-income units
  • Approximately 93% of units financed by HPD are for households at 80% AMI or lower
  • Discussion begins to touch on the definition of low-income housing in New York City

And one last question, chair, if I may.
0:55:08
How many ELI projects do you have in the pipeline currently?
Ahmed Tigani

Again, so most of our projects include tiers of extra low and low, extra low So, and the reason why we do that, A, because we have stress and need for housing at multiple levels of, multiple levels of income.

Again, 80% and lower is considered low income housing and many of those are households we work with through our constituent services every day.

I would say up to 93% of the units that we build have been financed for 80% AMI units or lower.
