Council Member Pierina Sanchez questions HPD about the stability of Community Development Block Grant funds, which account for 70% of HPD's code enforcement budget. Acting Commissioner Ahmed Tigani responds, explaining HPD's approach to potential funding changes.
- HPD is closely monitoring discussions in DC about Community Development funding
- The agency is waiting for the president's budget for fiscal year 2026 to understand potential impacts
- HPD acknowledges the difficulty in replacing federal funding sources if cuts occur
- The agency plans to assess funding sources and make choices based on available information

Thank you.
2:36:06
And then my last question, and that makes sense and we absolutely have to push back.
2:36:15
My last question is more 70% of HPD's code enforcement budget comes from community development block grant funds.
2:36:23
So how are we feeling about the security, the stability of these allocated funds and what is HPD's plan if we're to face cuts on that front?
Ahmed Tigani
2:36:35
So I think the same question was posed to the OMB director.
2:36:39
We have a number of individuals who are closely tracking and monitoring discussions in DC about CD writ large.
2:36:46
We continue to just understand where those changes might happen.
2:36:52
And until we know more, we're not sure what best way to plan.
2:36:56
We have different funding sources.
2:36:58
We count on the federal funding sources.
2:37:01
And it would be a very difficult source to replace writ large.
2:37:04
So it's a matter of understanding.
2:37:06
We know where the continuing resolution has settled.
2:37:09
We're waiting for the president's budget to come out soon for fiscal year twenty six.
2:37:14
And then we'll have to understand basically what the uses are, what our federal funding sources are, and what kind of choices we have to make moving forward.
