Council Member Ossé raises concerns about sanitation issues and the need for social support services in the Franklin Avenue station area, seeking commitments from the administration to address these problems.

  • Ossé highlights issues such as litter, public urination, and the need for harm reduction services in the area.
  • City officials acknowledge the importance of these issues and mention ongoing work with MTA to address them.
  • The discussion reveals a gap in representation from relevant agencies like MTA, DSS, and DSNY at the meeting, prompting questions about inter-agency coordination on these matters.

Okay.
1:33:58
The area as you know is a busy corridor.
1:34:01
There are many sanitation issues around including litter and public urination.
1:34:06
Additionally there are those who need harm reduction services who frequent the area.
1:34:11
What investments will the administration commit to in bringing more sanitation as well as social support services to the Franklin Avenue station area?
Jonah Rogoff
1:34:23
So that's something we're also working with MTA on.
1:34:27
Okay.
1:34:28
Yep, we understand that's a major issue and priority.
Chi A. Ossé
1:34:32
Okay.
1:34:34
And can I just ask why MTA or DSS or DSNY is not here?
1:34:44
Maybe speaking to us about some of these additional things that we need in order to get this project approved?
Alex Sommer
1:34:53
So the main core partners of this neighborhood planning process have been DCP, HPD, DOT and SBS.
1:35:02
We pull MTA in whether it's related to the MTA site on Atlantic or for these improvements.
1:35:11
And we meet with them regularly on this.
1:35:14
For example, so for like homeless services or social services, we have been working with them for example with like the armory.
1:35:23
Happy to take this back and figure out if there's additional things that we can include as part of our discussion in the next couple of weeks.
Chi A. Ossé
1:35:31
And are there any other improvements to the AC subway line in the area that MTA can commit to that you've heard from them in your conversations?
