I am council member Carmen de la Rosa, chair of the committee on civil service and labor.

Today, the committee will be voting on the following legislative items that seek to reduce barriers to employment and advance equity in New York City's workforce.

Proposed intro six seventy one a sponsored by myself which will authorize the Department of Citywide Administrative Services to waive the civil service examination fee for individuals who are enrolled at any public, private, or charter high school in New York City or who are first time applicants.

Proposed resolution three three three a sponsored by public advocate Williams which calls on the New York state legislature to pass and the New York state governor to sign state senate bill 28 a and its partner assembly bill 10 o six which would eliminate the sub minimum wage for employees based on their disability or age.

The pieces of legislation being voted on today seek to address some of the financial hardships faced by current and prospective workers in New York City.

Exam fees which range from $40 to over $100 are a significant barrier for students and new applicants especially for those from low income households.

In New York City where roughly eleven percent of people experience some form of disability, it is imperative that we take every step to ensure that workers with disability are treated with dignity, fairness and respect.
