Council Member Chris Banks inquires about the presence of fire guards versus security guards at NYCHA developments, particularly in senior buildings. Lauren Gray provides information on the distribution of these guards across NYCHA properties.

  • 23-24 developments have fire guards due to system impairments
  • 2-3 buildings have both fire guards and security guards because they are senior buildings
  • Fire guards are required to roam the building, not stay in the lobby
  • Residents are notified through property management and TA presidents when guards are present

Are there currently any developments that only have a a fire guard and doesn't have a security security or boots on the ground, a security guard in in in lobby?
Lauren Gray

Well, fire guards are supposed to roam the building.
1:06:04

Chris Banks
1:06:07
And I'm asking you.
1:06:08
Are there any NYCHA developments or senior developments that have a fire guard but don't have a security guard?
Lauren Gray
1:06:17
Yes.
1:06:17
There are 24 or 23 developments that have, fire guards because there's an, an impairment to the system, and we're required to do that.
1:06:27
And there's, two or three buildings that actually have both a fire guard and a security guard because they're a senior building.
Chris Banks
1:06:32
And when that happens, are the residents made aware?
Lauren Gray
1:06:35
Yes.
1:06:36
We notify property management and the TA president that either a security guard or fire guard is gonna be present at the the building.

Okay.
Chris Banks
