Council Member Cabán presses Director Logan for more specific information about whether everyone who opts in for reentry services actually receives them. The exchange reveals some ambiguity in the process and data tracking.

  • Logan clarifies that while services are offered to all, follow-through after release is difficult to track.
  • Cabán seeks confirmation that there is capacity to serve everyone who opts in.
  • Logan states that to her knowledge, no partners have reported turning away people due to lack of capacity.

And of if it's offered to every single person, when they say yes, our vocational, educational, therapeutic, community programming, are those all of those things being
Deanna Logan
2:35:57
given to those individuals?
2:35:58
If they are accepting reentry services, all of that including substance misuse and mental health treatment.
2:36:06
So you're saying no gaps.
2:36:07
Everybody who wants it is getting it.
2:36:11
Everybody who is coming into reentry services, those services are offered.
2:36:17
The question of do they actually follow through and get them is a different question.
2:36:21
But that's
Tiffany Cabán
2:36:22
not the question I'm asking.
2:36:23
I'm saying everybody who is going out the door and says, yes, I want services, is every single one of those per persons getting services.
Deanna Logan
2:36:39
Again, it is a voluntary service.
Tiffany Cabán
2:36:42
I know and they're voluntarily opting in, so when they voluntarily opt in, are 100% of those people who voluntary opt in, are they getting the services?
2:36:52
And I couldn't tell
Deanna Logan
2:36:53
you yes or no specifically because you voluntarily opted in and you walked out the door, you picked up your belongings and then you went back into community and then I don't know and it would be untruthful for me to look at you and say and then you actually did the next step of coming into the office to get the services that were offered to you.
2:37:12
So I can tell you how many people our partners have been able to give services to.
2:37:17
What I cannot tell you is whether or not during the time that they're in DOC's custody and the time that they actually come back into community, they followed through on making sure that they went to get the services that they said that they want.
Tiffany Cabán
2:37:31
And if they say yes that they want the services, current availability of those services could support every single person who has opted in.
Deanna Logan
2:37:44
To my knowledge, we have not had a partner who come back to us to say we had people that we turned away because we just don't have the the capacity to serve them right now.
2:37:54
That's where I am.
