  • DCAS manages the 55A program, allowing individuals with disabilities to be hired without taking the civil service exam
  • Partnerships with external entities, including the Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities (MOPD) and Access VR
  • Recent initiatives include meetings with 55A coordinators and engagement with agencies to promote the program

Okay and I guess this is for across the board, but does DCAS or m o e r j ever work with the office for persons with disabilities to ensure that the city's workforce is inclusive of employees with disabilities?

I can definitely speak on that.

The office of Citywide Recruitment, we manage the 55A program, which is a program that allows individuals with disability to be hired into government positions without having to take the civil service exam, and so we do partner with external entities including the mayor's office for people with disability.

We actually just did a meeting with all of our 55A coordinator.

We, you know, provided them with an overview again of the 55A program, reintroducing them to MOPD's NYC at work team, and also engage in Access VR, which is one of the state agency that participates, that confirms a person that has a disability and can do the job, and we are actually working now and working with different agencies.

Just tomorrow we have a meeting with an agency to speak to their higher end managers about the program and initiatives that we're doing and that they can take on to move it forward, and so we're doing this in conjunction with the mayor's office for people with disabilities.
