Council Member Brooks-Powers inquires about additional locations for expanding the overnight truck parking program. Deputy Commissioner Beaton discusses the department's approach to potential expansion and criteria for new locations.
- DOT is considering adding locations before the initial one-year pilot period ends
- Areas under consideration include locations suggested by council members and interest from Staten Island
- Criteria for new locations include industrial land use, proximity to highways and major trucking routes, and streets wide enough for large trucks
- DOT aims to avoid residential areas and minimize trucks traveling through local communities

Can you let us know what additional locations you're looking at for the next expansion of the program?
Eric Beaton
0:44:42
Sure.
0:44:43
Our original intent was to follow these three locations for a year.
0:44:46
Obviously we've heard from you and from Councilmember Williams that there's more interest and so I don't think we're not going to say there's no way we can add locations because it hasn't been a year.
0:44:56
I think we are looking at the locations you've provided.
0:44:59
There's also been some interest from Staten Island.
0:45:02
So we are looking at other areas around the city.
0:45:04
But the idea is that we want the same types of criteria.
0:45:07
We want to have locations that are industrial land use and not residential.
0:45:12
We want them to be convenient to highways and to major trucking routes so that we don't have trucks going through local communities to get to these places.
0:45:21
We need the streets to be big and wide enough that large trucks can get there safely and in large numbers.
0:45:28
So we're looking for the same types of locations, but we think where there's interest we can do more around the city.
