He emphasizes the importance of prioritizing people who use the streets most frequently over creating more parking spaces.
- Hassett highlights the issue of poor visibility at intersections, forcing drivers to pull into crosswalks
- He argues that creating more parking spaces will only lead to more drivers, not solving the underlying problem
- The testimony strongly supports the bill as a means to protect pedestrians, including people with children and dogs

Hello.
3:28:56
My name is James Hassett.
3:28:58
I am also a member of the Sunrise Movement New York City and I'm here to I'm here in favor of Intro eleven thirty eight because this is simply a common sense solution to make the most populous city in the country safer for the people who walk it every single day.
3:29:19
I think that when it comes down to the bill, it's obvious that improving visibility and putting up safeguards around crosswalks will help lives.
3:29:30
Even drivers who hasn't had the experience of a stop sign intersection where you can't see the opposing traffic and drivers are forced to pull into the crosswalk.
3:29:45
I mean this is just about bad street design.
3:29:48
You might lose some parking spaces but here's the thing, you're never gonna have enough parking spaces for drivers in this city.
3:29:57
If you make more parking spaces, you'll have more drivers who fill those parking spaces.
3:30:02
So why don't we prioritize the people who are actually using the streets the most?
3:30:07
People who are walking, people using the subway, people using the buses, people with kids, people with dogs.
3:30:14
They are putting their lives at risk every time walking into a crosswalk.
3:30:20
And so I I absolutely support this bill and urge you to pass it.
3:30:28
Thank you.
