Justin Romuto, a resident of Winthrop Street in Brooklyn, testifies in support of the daylighting bill based on his personal experience with both daylighted and non-daylighted intersections near his home. He emphasizes the safety benefits for all street users, including pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers.
- Romuto describes the positive impact of existing daylighting measures at the intersection of Bedford and Winthrop
- He contrasts this with the less safe conditions at Flatbush and Winthrop, which lacks daylighting
- Romuto argues that the bill is "common sense" and would improve safety for everyone who needs to cross the street

Hi.
3:43:49
My name is Justin Romuto.
3:43:51
I live on Winthrop Street in Brooklyn between Flatbush Avenue and Bedford Avenue.
3:43:58
And when I leave my building and I make a right, I'm on Bedford and Winthrop and there's three corners there that have a daylighting application.
3:44:08
It's like the curb sticks out a little bit and it's just better over there.
3:44:14
If I make a left Flatbush and Winthrop, it's not as safe.
3:44:19
And having that experience, seeing how those different intersections field across every single day when I leave my house, it makes me realize, oh, this is great over here on Bedford and Winthrop.
3:44:31
I want to do it.
3:44:33
On the other side, I want do it all over the neighborhood.
3:44:35
I think it's wonderful.
3:44:37
And that's why I'm here to support it.
3:44:39
I'm mostly a biker, but I also cross the street.
3:44:42
I'm a pedestrian.
3:44:43
Everyone does that.
3:44:44
And again, someone said common sense but I feel like that's like the keyword for me.
3:44:49
If this idea, this bill makes it safer for anyone crossing the street, I feel like that's it's a great idea because everyone has to cross the street at some point.
3:45:02
And if it makes it easier to see people when you're crossing the street you know, when you're walking across the street, no one wants to get hit by a car, but car drivers don't want to hit people either too.
3:45:12
So I feel like this is a great idea.
3:45:15
I fully support it.
3:45:16
That's all I have to say.
3:45:18
Thank you.
3:45:20
Good
