Kat Morano strongly supports daylighting in New York City, sharing personal experiences and community tragedies to illustrate the importance of improved visibility at intersections. She argues that safer streets should not be up for debate and emphasizes the need to protect vulnerable citizens.
- Recounted a personal incident where obstructed visibility led to her being hit by an SUV while running
- Mentioned a tragic incident in Fort Greene where a child was killed by a tow truck on the way to school, which might have been prevented with daylighting
- Stressed that daylighting is crucial for protecting vulnerable populations like children, seniors, and people with disabilities

Hi.
5:23:29
Good afternoon.
5:23:31
I am strongly in favor of daylighting, and I do have a couple of anecdotes that I'd like to share.
5:23:38
About five years ago, I was running in Brooklyn.
5:23:40
My husband and I currently live in Fort Greene, and I was living in Brooklyn Heights at the time.
5:23:45
I came to a crosswalk where the visibility was obstructed.
5:23:49
The walk signal was active, so I began running across the street when an SUV rolled through the light.
5:23:55
I rolled onto the car.
5:23:56
I was luckily not seriously injured, though it was very traumatic, especially given that the driver actually drove away.
5:24:04
Had I had additional visibility, I do not think that that would have happened.
5:24:09
Additionally, and I believe this was already mentioned by Nicole, where my husband and I live in Fort Greene, there was a child that was killed crossing the street on their way to school a couple of years ago.
5:24:21
They were struck by a tow truck and killed instantly.
5:24:24
And as, of course, also mentioned by Nicole, the driver did believe that had the daylighting bill been active in New York City that that would not have occurred.
5:24:34
So we could have avoided the death of a small child who was just on their way to school, which was obviously very traumatic for the community and the child's family.
5:24:43
I personally believe that daylighting is not something that should be questioned at all, given safer streets shouldn't be something that's up for arguments.
5:24:53
We need to protect the citizens of New York City, specifically those who are vulnerable, like children and seniors and people with disabilities.
5:25:02
So thank you so much for your time.
