Hi.
4:25:24
I'm Matt Dennings, and I live in Flatbush, Brooklyn.
4:25:27
And I'm here to voice my strong support for passing in Trail 1138 for universal daylighting.
4:25:33
Daylighting is a simple change that's proven to save lives, and we need that because hundreds of New Yorkers are killed in crashes every year.
4:25:42
Each of those deaths is a preventable tragedy.
4:25:45
We should be doing everything we can to get that number down to zero, and universal daylight is the obvious next step.
4:25:51
It's easy to see why universal daylighting would help because at intersections, it needs to be easy for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists to all be able to see each other.
4:26:00
It's not only essential for safety, it also just makes getting around a bit easier for up for for all of us.
4:26:08
On top of that, universal daylight would also give us a little space on every block that could be used to improve our neighborhoods in any number of ways.
4:26:16
Personally, I'd love to see daylighting on my block get built out as rain gardens to help with the flooding that we get in every big rain storm.
4:26:23
And there are many other options here to fit the needs of neighborhoods all across the city.
4:26:28
I urge the council to pass this bill and then to stick with it over the coming years to hold the DOT and the mayor's office accountable for building the accompanying a company infrastructure.
4:26:37
Thank you.
