Hi.
5:05:13
My name is Michael Cass, and I'm a resident of Morris Park in The Bronx.
5:05:17
Thank you for the opportunity to testify.
5:05:19
I just wanted to express my support for intro eleven thirty eight.
5:05:23
This is a very simple bill.
5:05:24
Most crashes in New York City occur in intersections, and this bill will improve visibility around every intersection by default so that folks can spot each other sooner as they approach the intersection, whether they are a pedestrian motorist or cyclist.
5:05:39
I think many New Yorkers understand the experience of having to lean over and peek our heads out to see if there's any oncoming traffic at an intersection, because we can't see over large SUVs or trucks parked near the crosswalk.
5:05:51
And I think most folks get it.
5:05:53
Even my local community board, Bronx Community Board eleven, supported a daylighting resolution, which is amazing for that community board.
5:06:01
Shout out to Ryan Barthel, who testified earlier, for getting that through.
5:06:05
New York state law already prohibits parking within 20 feet of a crosswalk, with New York City being the exception.
5:06:12
This bill will bring New York City in line with the rest of the state.
5:06:15
Lastly, I want to specifically thank the members of the Bronx delegation that cosponsored this bill.
5:06:21
Thank you, Perina Sanchez, Oswald Feliz, and Diana Ayala.
5:06:26
I was paying attention to who would be the first from The Bronx to support this bill, and I appreciate them.
5:06:32
Thanks again.
