Council Members Julie Menin and Lincoln Restler discuss the possibility of transferring the outdoor dining program from the Department of Transportation (DOT) to the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP). They agree on the program's current failures and the need for improvement.
- Menin calls the current program an 'unmitigated disaster'
- She suggests transferring the program to DCWP, citing its expertise in licensing and sidewalk cafe management
- Restler agrees that DCWP might be a more logical home for the program
- Both council members express willingness to work together on improving the program

Thank you, council member Ressler.
2:22:42
And I just wanna say I agree.
2:22:44
I don't think you were here for part of my opening remark where I called it an unmitigated disaster, and I'm urging.
2:22:49
And I hope yes.
2:22:50
And and I do hope that in because I've got a number of LS requests to revamp it too.
2:22:55
I hope that you will consider this idea of transferring the program to to DCWP, a licensing agency, as opposed to a transit agency.
2:23:06
I think a lot of the problems come from the fact that we need a licensing agency with a walk in licensing center.
2:23:12
DCWP has historic expertise in sidewalk cafe licenses.
2:23:16
We certainly did not have these problems when that agency was doing that.

You know, I I just will say I during the legislative process, I thought DCWP was a more logical home.
2:23:25
We'd welcome to continue those conversations as we go through our drafting process, and we'd love to work with you together.
2:23:29
And I think if DOT wants to own this program long term, we just need to see significant improvement.
2:23:33
Thank you.
