Council Member Gale A. Brewer inquires about ways to shorten the lengthy application process for outdoor dining permits. DOT officials discuss the possibility of changing the revocable consent requirement and express openness to exploring options with the City Council to streamline the process.

  • The current process involves revocable consent, which is part of the city charter
  • DOT is open to discussing shorter review periods and other improvements with the City Council
  • There may be potential for changes through the Charter Revision Commission

First of all, I think we all want to know I know this is the general question.
2:04:42
But what the process is long.
2:04:44
Are you do you have some suggestions that could make it shorter?
2:04:47
I know that in some cases when it's a perfect storm, it sounds like you can do it in weeks.
2:04:53
But are there some suggestions you would have to make it shorter?
2:04:56
And I guess picking up on the, chairman, it is does revocable consent have to exist or could we do a permit?
Margaret Forgione
2:05:04
Okay.
2:05:05
So Michelle will comment a little bit more about revocable consent.
2:05:08
It's part of the charter.
2:05:10
And there's a question on whether
Gale A. Brewer
2:05:11
So when I testify tonight at the charter, the mayor's charter, I will say get rid of the goddamn thing.
Margaret Forgione
2:05:17
Okay.
2:05:17
And that might entail a referendum, but I'm going have Michelle explain that because she understands it best.
2:05:22
But in terms of all of the other requirements, we would want to talk that over with the council and decide do we want to have some of the review periods be less, for example.
2:05:32
Those are things that we would want to talk about further, and we're open.
2:05:36
We want to make it as smooth as possible.
2:05:38
Michelle, do you want to explain about
Crizette Woods
2:05:40
I hate that I
Michelle Craven
2:05:42
would very much like to explain.
2:05:43
I think a lot of this was comes out of discussions from the city law department, so I don't think we'd get into too much detail right here.
2:05:51
But my understanding, because we were trying to streamline the process as much as possible sort of going into the legislation, my understanding is that the consent was the only option at the time.
2:06:03
I think we would be happy if there is another way to do this to talk about a different option.
2:06:08
I think if you're going to go to the CRC, feel free
Gale A. Brewer
2:06:12
add it to my list already.
Michelle Craven
2:06:14
But that's where we're I think we'd be happy to talk more, but probably offline.
