We also focus on education too, And when I say education, I'm going to highlight one particular precinct in the in Queens, the 109 Precinct.
0:20:36
We are data driven.
0:20:38
We have our traffic stats, and I'll speak to that a little as to what we do.
0:20:41
When we see stats like that where we see a spike specifically in the senior community, right away we partner with our with uniform members of the service and the Community Affairs Bureau and just have somewhat of a an initiative in that in on certain identified corridors.
0:21:00
So year to date in the 109 Precinct, for instance, this is exactly what the types of things that we saw.
0:21:06
Year to date, there were a 13 versus one zero three pedestrian injuries.
0:21:11
Thirty six of the one thirteen were for pedestrians, those were mostly seniors, and we saw the same type of pattern in 2024.
0:21:17
So we tasked the command, our partners, that's the engineering requirement with the DOT, to conduct massive and consistent education outreach throughout that community, also tapping into the Community Affairs Bureau as well as our local precinct and follow-up with in force and traffic summonses along those corridor to change driver behavior.
0:21:35
Special thanks to the community affairs bureau again for coordinating the outreach work in the 109 Precinct.
0:21:41
We identified for that initiative.
0:21:43
So a lot of initiatives around the city where we see some type of SPAC and this is how we respond.
0:21:47
So three problematic intersections were identified.
0:21:50
The outreach work was done over three days, and a lot of it just concluded with traffic safety overview, discussions on crossing safety, vision zero flyers in English and Korean.
0:22:02
We also gave out pens, jacket reflectors, whistles, and reflection tapes were also distributed.
0:22:07
My point here is that the focus not just in enforcement like I mentioned, but just one of the three e's, but also in education.
0:22:13
In this case, we really wanted to keep our seniors safe.
