Council Member Gutiérrez questions the decision not to invest in new shared infrastructure as outlined in the Internet Master Plan. Brett Sikoff explains the administration's reasoning and current approach to broadband infrastructure.

  • Gutiérrez asks what didn't work about the plan's proposal to invest in new infrastructure that could be shared by multiple operators
  • Sikoff explains that the decision was based on the view that significant investment in infrastructure that's already widely available wouldn't necessarily achieve the desired results
  • The discussion reveals that the city has not invested funding into shared broadband infrastructure for public use
