2:31:33
I've been a Chelsea resident for the past thirty years.
2:31:36
I live on Nineteenth Street.
2:31:38
And during this time, I've watched the High Line evolve from an idea to a destination that's loved by local residents and international visitors as well.
2:31:52
I walk to work on the High Line.
2:31:53
I work at 50 Ninth.
2:31:55
And I see parents escorting their children to school.
2:31:58
I see folks taking in just a bit of fresh air.
2:32:02
I see people enjoying the quality of life that it offers.
2:32:07
And as I walk to work in the morning, I think about the Hudson River and I look at it where I can see it now.
2:32:12
And I'm a history nerd, so I think about Henry Hudson.
2:32:16
I think about George Washington and interactions along the Hudson.
2:32:21
I think about Alexander Hamilton rowing to his final debacle in Weehawken.
2:32:27
But I've watched, as I've watched and walked over the years, I've watched views disappear.
2:32:33
What was once open space and sunlight is now a corridor through high rises.
2:32:39
And that affects quality of life for everyone, not just for me, but for everyone here in New York City.
2:32:45
You can't put a price on a view of the Hudson River.
2:32:49
And I'm really speaking for aesthetic reasons, which means quality of life, and that affects everyone.
2:32:55
Once views of the Hudson River are gone, they are gone forever.
2:33:00
I just ask that the people who make the decisions respect this place and its history.
