Kitty Chan, Deputy Commissioner of Business Services at SBS, explains the department's methods for disseminating information and handling referrals. She emphasizes the importance of educating staff and using various communication channels to reach small business owners.
- SBS educates its staff on new rules and regulations, often with training provided by sister agencies
- Information is disseminated through multiple newsletters, including NYC Best and center operations
- Referrals between agencies are handled as warm handoffs, ensuring a smooth transition for businesses seeking assistance
- The process aims to avoid businesses having to start from scratch when referred to another agency like CCHR

Well, first of thank you for the question.
1:05:18
I want to address how we disseminate information first.
1:05:21
When we get information about any rules, regulations, not only do we educate our staff on it, and our sister agencies have been incredible in providing training to our staff.
1:05:31
We also ensure that it goes in all of our newsletters.
1:05:34
We have several newsletters whether it's through our NYC Best or our center operations to ensure that all this information is getting in the hands of small business owners.
1:05:43
In terms of referrals, it would depend on how it came into us and exactly what it looks like but we do have very good working relationships with our partners so it's not a cold handoff, it's actually always a warm handoff from one agency to another.

Okay, so yeah they wouldn't have to like start from the bottom of CCHR's you know hotline that I love to hate even though it's better now you know you have real people there.
1:06:13
So you don't have to start there, you directly connect them to okay, great.
