JoAnn Kamuf Ward discusses the updates to CCHR's legal enforcement guidance on discrimination against people with disabilities in housing, employment, and places of accommodation. She explains the frequency and nature of these updates.

  • The guidance is currently being updated and will be posted within the next month
  • Updates typically occur every couple of years to reflect changes in federal and state laws
  • The new guidance will include content on emerging issues, such as technology used by employers that may lead to discrimination based on disabilities
  • Other materials are updated more frequently than the legal enforcement guidance, depending on changes in facts or law
  • The legal enforcement guidance is described as the lengthiest and most legal document produced by CCHR

In 2018, you released the legal enforcement guidance on discrimination against people with disabilities in housing, employment and places of accommodation.
1:12:23
How frequently would you say this guidance is updated?
JoAnn Kamuf Ward
1:12:29
Well it is currently updated.
1:12:32
We actually just went through an update So we'll be posting that, I would say, in the next month or so.
1:12:42
It's every couple of years.
1:12:44
It reflects federal law and state law changes and really tries to be responsive to the moment.
1:12:52
So for example, in our new guidance, we will be talking about technology used by employers which may lead to discrimination based on disabilities and adding new content like that.
1:13:05
But every few years is really when we update our legal enforcement guidance and other materials are updated either when facts or law change.
1:13:13
So the legal enforcement guidance are our lengthiest, most legal document.
1:13:18
Other things are updated at a faster clip.
