The council member inquires about the potential consequences of DSNY not receiving full funding for the composting program implementation. The Acting Commissioner addresses concerns about service impacts and suggests alternative approaches to reduce costs.

  • The Acting Commissioner believes that core services would not be impacted by underfunding.
  • Residents can currently use their own bins (55 gallons or less) for composting.
  • DSNY suggests considering the use of senior citizen and disability homeowner exemptions instead of STAR and e-STAR to reduce costs.
  • The discussion highlights the need for flexibility in program implementation based on available funding.

I just have one last So my last question, if Disney does not is not appropriated the full funding amount to implement this program, what elements of the legislation would be at would be most at risk?
1:41:07
Like bin distribution, dis reimbursements, or administration capacity, and how will services be impacted?
Javier Lojan
1:41:16
So I don't think the services would be impacted.
1:41:19
I mean, now residents can use their own bin that's 55 gallons or less.

But one of the things that we had suggested, previously, to consider was use instead of the full star and e star, population would be to use the, senior citizen homeowner exemption and disability homeowner exemption, which is a lot of a lower cost.

And, obviously, it's a lot less than what the the 34,000,000 that we're estimating.
