Council Member Williams inquires about how the department tracks patterns of chronic illegal dumping and allocates resources accordingly. She also asks about interagency coordination to address the issue.

  • The department uses 311 data and field observations to track illegal dumping
  • Williams' district has the highest rate of 311 complaints for illegal dumping in NYC
  • The department works with other city agencies, including NYPD, to address illegal dumping
  • 11 cameras in Williams' district have resulted in 6 impounds and 7 summonses in the current calendar year
  • There is currently no funding for additional cameras

The other question I have is how do you track the patterns of chronic illegal dumping by location and frequency?
1:27:29
I know the previous commissioner did give me data on the three eleven complaint, so my district has the highest out of all of New York City for illegal dumping three eleven complaints, but the funding and resources to support illegal dumping does not match that.
1:27:42
So you just testify that you do use the three eleven data, but I don't think that between garage twelve particularly which CB12 has the highest rate of three eleven complaints for illegal dumping, the resources fit that data.
1:27:59
And I don't know if that's still
1:28:00
This was a few years ago when she just started, but just wondering how you are continuing to track that.
1:28:10
And do you coordinate with other agencies PD, DOT, or local bids?
1:28:15
I know in my district I've been working with the Queen's DA but this is not standard across the city.
1:28:21
Like there's not a lot of interagency coordination around how to even address illegal dumping.
1:28:27
No.
1:28:49
Are you scheduled to place more cameras?
1:28:52
Because I know I funded a few, the mayor's office funded a few.
Javier Lojan
1:27:57
Me see if I have that.
1:28:06
Yeah.
1:28:07
No.
1:28:07
We we still continue to track that.
1:28:08
Let me see if I can get some little stats for you.
1:28:27
We work closely with all the city agencies.
1:28:32
Mean NYPD has access to our illegal dumping cameras as well and I have some stats for you on your district.
1:28:41
So the 11 cameras you have have yielded six impounds in seven sumsses in calendar year '25 to date.
1:28:49
You've Okay.
1:28:56
Right, so not at this time, we don't have any funding for additional cameras.

the case.
