Bike month celebration and protected bike lane construction

Commissioner Rodriguez highlights the city's achievements in promoting cycling and constructing protected bike lanes, as well as the ongoing Bike Month celebration.
- DOT has built a record 8.8 miles of new protected bike lanes under the current administration
- New York City has built more protected bike lanes than all other large U.S. cities combined
- Funding will support upgrading an additional 20 miles of bike lanes
- Annual bike trips have increased from 98 million in 2009 to 226 million last year
- Bike Month includes events across all five boroughs, including free bike maintenance, light giveaways, and education outreach for delivery workers
- A new initiative on Staten Island will give away bikes to underserved kids

This month, we are celebrating bike month with month long programming and community event designed to encourage cycling, promote safety, and celebrate the city growing bike culture.

There's so much to celebrate under the Eric Adams administration.

DOT has built a record of 8.7 eight point eight point five miles of new protected bike lanes.

That number is larger than the numbers of protected bike lanes that has been built in the same period of time by any previous administration.

And the numbers of bike lanes that we have built in New York City is larger than the numbers of protected bike lanes that all largest city has built together in this country.

With this funding, also will upgrade additional 20 miles to support the over two twenty six million annual bike trips.

Again, $226,000,000 is to put in perspective of bike trip that we had last year.

Our celebration includes dozen of events across all five boroughs, including free homemade feeding, bike light giveaway, education outreach for delivery workers, And our Grace Rosanne, our Staten Island Borough Commissioner, started an initiative that we're looking to expand across the five boroughs, which is that in partnership with Bike New York, they will have a giveaway bike to underserved kids where more than 200 bike being donated by residents on Staten Island, Bike New York, and other.
