Council Member Brooks-Powers questions why DOT has been more successful in meeting bike lane targets compared to bus lane and bus stop targets. Commissioner Rodriguez struggles to provide a clear explanation for the discrepancy.

  • Brooks-Powers points out that DOT has come closer to meeting bike lane requirements (29 out of 50 miles) compared to bus lanes (13.5 out of 30 miles)
  • The Council Member suggests that DOT seems to put more effort into advocating for protected bike lanes than bus lanes
  • Rodriguez initially claims equal priority for both, but fails to directly address the discrepancy in implementation rates
  • The Commissioner's responses focus more on challenges and community opposition rather than explaining the difference in success rates

for Thank you.
0:55:38
Thank you, I just want to reiterate my last question.
0:55:41
Why have why has the agency been able to come closer to meeting the bike lane requirement but not the targets of the bus lanes or bus stops?
0:55:55
Essentially want to know the agency has been able to come closer to the goals or the benchmarks for the bike lanes compared to the bus stops and the bus lanes and so I want to know why the agents like what's happening that the agency has been able to be more successful in one area not the other when both I'm sure are being met with community opposition anyway.
0:56:57
Commission, I would argue it's not really equal because when you talk about the protected bus lanes, we're talking about 13.5 miles out of 30 miles and then when we talk about the bike lanes, the protected bike lanes, we're talking about 29 miles out of 50.
0:57:13
It's not equal and the agency often you know advocates my office, my colleagues around the protected bike lanes but I don't see the same effort behind the bus lanes.
0:57:25
But I'm trying to understand from your perspective in terms of the agency something is is going better when we talk about the protected bike lanes but there's a gap or deficit happening with the bus lanes and the bus stops.
0:57:42
So I'm trying to understand and I'm asking you to help me understand what that difference It's

Can you rephrase the question?
0:56:23
Look, I I again, I I want to we have equal priority when it came to building protected bus lane Because I say, if you live in Manhattan, more than 75 people who live in this borough, they don't have car.
0:56:43
And I live in Manhattan too.
0:56:45
But there's a reason.
0:56:46
We have the best public transportation system.
0:56:49
We have trains from the West to the East.
0:56:52
We have bus connection from, you know, Fourteenth Street, 30 4, 40
