Diana Ayala
1:25:44
Absolutely.
1:25:45
But I mean, I just what you said you mentioned that thirty seven individuals there was thirty seven fatal incidents last year with
1:26:49
So they don't necessarily I'm sure they're not asking for your permission, but can you tell us what the what the the number of traffic fatalities was in '23?
Ydanis Rodriguez
1:25:57
Twenty three with yeah.
1:25:58
We lost thirty cyclists die in our street, but twenty three of them, they were using e bike.
1:26:07
And from those twenty three, seven of them, they were not hit by no vehicle.
1:26:12
They lost control.
1:26:14
And what we started, it took us for all to, you know, invest on educating both.
1:26:20
One, those who are using e bike on how they had to smart before they started using the bike.
1:26:26
But at the same time, in the same point card, we also have a piece of educating those who are using a bike and look for pedestrians.
1:26:35
And it's not legal to ride a bike in the sidewalk unless it's a child.
1:26:41
So we do a lot of the educational component with the NYPD, but the part related to the enforcement is on the NYPD side.
1:27:10
Me second.
1:27:11
Have it here.
1:27:11
Uh-huh.
1:27:12
Definitely.
1:27:14
And as the team that look for the numbers, most traffic fatalities that has is another type of violence.
1:27:26
And we've been taking that approach.
1:27:28
What we know is that most the the fatality, the traffic fatality that we have is most produced by people who drive cars or trucks.
1:27:38
Mhmm.
1:27:39
Not cyclists.
1:27:39
So we recognize that.
1:27:41
Yes.
1:27:41
But we also recognize that it doesn't matter if the town hall happened in El Barrio, Washington, West Side, Upper East Side, Brooklyn.
1:27:49
There's gonna be parents and people say, what are you doing with those small percentage, but those reckless cyclists who are using e bike who are in the sidewalk.
1:27:59
So definitely we know that we had to tackle this issue.
1:28:04
And from the educational to the enforcement, it's a job that must be done.
1:28:09
As Major Arden has said, everyone must play by the rule.
1:28:13
We want drivers to who those who are behind the wheel or trucks and car to look for pedestrians and cyclists.
1:28:21
But we also want those who are using e bike to look for pedestrians and not to use the e bike in the sidewalk.
Adam Ganser
1:27:00
Overall?
1:27:01
We have it here.
1:27:03
Give us a second.
1:27:04
Do wanna share the number?
1:27:06
Give us a second.
Margaret Forgione
1:28:31
So in 2023, there was a total of two hundred and sixty seven fatalities.
1:28:36
In 2024, it was two hundred and fifty two.
