First Deputy Commissioner Forgione explains the Department of Transportation's efforts to increase the use of recycled asphalt pavement (RAP) in their road resurfacing projects.
- DOT is currently using about 40% or more RAP in their asphalt mixes
- The department aims to consistently produce asphalt with 50% recycled content
- Using RAP reduces the need for new materials and helps with disposal of milled surfaces

We are very interested in expanding good environmental programs such as that.

We're also very much focused on increasing our percentage of RAP, which is recycled asphalt pavement, in the mixes that we do produce ourselves.

Right now we're at about 40% or upwards and we're looking to consistently start producing 50% recycled asphalt, which, of course, is a great way to prevent us from purchasing brand new materials and also disposing of the milled surface once we take it up.
