Council Member Krishnan provides an overview of the Department of Parks and Recreation's fiscal 2026 executive budget, highlighting the increase from the preliminary budget but noting that it falls short of expectations.

  • Total budget: approximately $667.3 million
  • Increase of $26.8 million since the preliminary budget in January
  • Budget still far from the promised 1% ($1 billion) of the city budget

Today, we will be hearing testimony from the Department of Parks and Recreation on its fiscal twenty twenty six executive budget, which totals approximately $667,300,000, an increase of $26,800,000 since the release of the preliminary budget in January, but we still have a long way to go.

While it is always better to see increases instead of decreases as we saw in previous years, this is still nowhere near the amount of money that our Parks Department deserves and it is nowhere near the 1% or $1,000,000,000 goal that the mayor campaigned on and is currently campaigning on.

So just to put in perspective, $1,000,000,000 was the commitment broken year after year.

We're at a parks department budget of $667,000,000.
