Council Member Chris Banks inquires about the resources needed to expedite discretionary capital projects. Shaan Mavani, NYCHA's Chief Asset & Capital Management Officer, explains the current status of project delivery and staffing.

  • NYCHA is currently able to effectively staff and deliver all discretionary capital projects
  • 55 previously paused projects have been restarted, either combined with other projects or on their own
  • There are currently no paused projects, and NYCHA is sufficiently staffed and resourced to take on and deliver discretionary projects effectively

Yeah, if you can get back, I'd appreciate that.
3:13:56
What resources would be needed to allow discretionary capital projects to flow more quickly?
3:14:04
And have you requested these resources from OMB?
Shaan Mavani
3:14:10
Sure, I can take that.
3:14:12
Currently we are able to effectively staff and deliver all of our discretionary capital projects on top of the non discretionary.
3:14:20
Obviously a couple years ago we had at the council hearing made a decision or communicated a decision to pause a small number of projects, so 55 projects out of our portfolio of about six fifty due to inability to effectively staff and deliver those at the same time as our compliance commitments.
3:14:40
We now have restarted all of those 55 projects that were either combined them with other projects or started them on their own.
3:14:49
We do not currently have any projects that are paused in that way and therefore I think we're sufficiently staffed and resourced to be able to take on discretionary projects and deliver them effectively.
