Council Member Brannan inquires about the City Council's potential role in speeding up affordable housing development timelines, and Acting Commissioner Tigani provides several suggestions for Council involvement.

  • Tigani acknowledges the Council's support through the City of Yes initiative, which includes funding and staff lines to help with projects.
  • He emphasizes the importance of continued pressure on federal changes, especially in the coming weeks.
  • Tigani suggests ongoing conversations about provisions in charter, law, and regulatory schemes related to housing development in New York City.
  • He also highlights the Council's work on fair housing as contributing to the message of moving projects forward more quickly.

Is there something the council can do to help speed up these timelines?
Ahmed Tigani

I think the council's support through City of Yes was very helpful.

Not only does the 1,000,000,000 help us do projects, the staff lines are going to help us do projects.
0:40:19
The council has been record about the federal changes and we certainly need to continue putting more pressure, not letting up.
0:40:26
The next six weeks or so are really important to seeing that work happen.
0:40:31
And I think overall continuing to have a conversation with the council about what provisions in charter and law and regulatory scheme is involved in development of housing writ large in New York City is going to be very helpful.
0:40:47
And I would say the last piece, the work that you've done on fair housing.
0:40:51
The pressure that we want to make sure that everyone understands that it's everyone's obligation to build fair housing across the city, that makes clear the message that we want to move projects faster, not impede its movement forward.
