Council Member Justin Brannan inquires about the time it takes to hire new employees at HPD. Acting Commissioner Ahmed Tigani explains the variables that affect the hiring timeline.
- Hiring timeline depends on funding source and whether the candidate is internal or external
- Internal city service transfers can take a couple of months, considering the need to coordinate with other agencies
- External hires from the private sector may have varying timelines based on the funding source
- Some positions can be filled in a couple of months, while others may take much longer

What's the approximate time for I apply for a job at HPD, you hire me, how long until my first day at work?
Ahmed Tigani

I think it depends on the funding source.

So if it's something we're not subject to particular hiring procedures, it could be a couple of months and then it depends on whether you are coming new from outside city service or internal city service.

If you're internal city service often we're also working with the other agency to come up with a release date that makes sense and doesn't impair their work and allows them to come over here.
0:27:46
If it's someone who's coming from outside private sector into the public sector it really just depends on the funding source to tell us how long it would take.
0:27:56
We could have something that's a couple of months.

Some positions do wait a much longer time.
