Council Member Farah N. Louis inquires about CUNY's capital projects in Brooklyn, particularly the allocation of $100,000 for Kingsborough Community College's child development center expansion. She also questions the implementation of a new law requiring free menstrual products on CUNY campuses.

  • CUNY officials provide details on the $9,280,000 borough president ask, with $100,000 allocated to Brooklyn
  • CUNY confirms compliance with the law on free menstrual products but needs to provide specific budget figures
  • The exchange highlights the council's oversight role in ensuring proper allocation of resources and implementation of new laws

Thank you chairs and good to see you chancellor and your whole I have one quick capital question and the rest of the questions on OTPS.
1:10:55
In your testimony today you mentioned that the ask to the borough president was 9,280,000.00 of which a hundred thousand would be particularly for Brooklyn.
1:11:05
So I wanted to know if you could elaborate a little bit more on that but which new capital projects or campus expansions are being prioritized in Brooklyn because I'm trying to figure out where that hundred thousand goes and how does CUNY weigh campus needs and enrollment demand when allocating infrastructure resources like these capital projects?
1:11:27
And my quick OTPS questions, in August 2024 the state legislature passed a new law requiring menstrual products to be available for free at CUNY campuses, so I wanted to know has CUNY implemented this law?
1:11:44
Has CUNY allocated additional funding from the state for this particular program and if yes how much and what is the yearly cost to supply menstrual products to all CUNY campuses?
1:11:56
And is this included in the FY twenty six budget request?
1:11:59
Thanks.
Félix Matos Rodríguez
