Council Member Justin Brannan inquires about the difference in state funding between the current and previous year. Deputy Chancellor Emma Vadehra explains that while they received $539 million more in foundation aid, it's over $300 million less than what they would have received under the previous formula.
- The increase is $539 million for foundation aid
- This is $300 million less than expected under the previous formula
- The shortfall affects funding earned through increased enrollment, services for English language learners, and inflation adjustments

I wanted to circle back to some of the state funding questions.

Just plainly, what's the difference between the amount of state funding from last year compared to this year?
Emma Vadehra

So for foundation aid, we'll receive $539,000,000 more.
2:32:08
But again, that's over $300 less than we would have received had the state just stuck with its current formula.
2:32:16
So one way of saying is that that's money, that additional 800 plus million dollars is money we earned through increased enrollment, through serving our English language learners, through the cost of inflation which is baked into the formula.
2:32:29
That's what we should have received under the previous formula, and what we received was 539,000,000.
