Deputy Chancellor Emma Vadehra provides an update on the current status of busing services for students with IEPs in response to Council Member Rita Joseph's inquiry. The discussion reveals the scale of the service and the number of students currently waiting for bus service.

  • Approximately 62,000 students with IEPs are currently being bused
  • About 100 students are currently waiting for busing services
  • Of the 100 waiting, about 75 have requested service within the past five days
  • The DOE is actively working to address the backlog of requests

And how many of our students with IEPs are still waiting for bus service?
Emma Vadehra
3:42:12
Yes.
3:42:13
So we are currently busing roughly 62,000 students with IEPs on our buses.
3:42:19
We have about a hundred currently waiting for busing at this moment in time.
3:42:24
As you know, that number fluctuates.
3:42:27
So a hundred out of 62,000.
3:42:29
Of that hundred, about 75 have only come to us in the past five days, and so we're working through that hundred, but most of them are fairly short term.
