afternoon.
5:52:21
My name is Harir Juarez.
5:52:23
I am 16 years old and I attend Urban Dove Team Charter School three Queens.
5:52:28
I used to go to Long Island City High School, but it was not a good fit for me and I struggled.
5:52:35
When I fell behind, I was lost.
5:52:37
The school has over 2,000 students.
5:52:40
I tried to switch to a DOE transfer school but they would not accept me because I was too young and had too few credits.
5:52:48
UD team took me right away.
5:52:50
I've had a great year, have earned more credits than I would have at LIC and I am back on track.
5:52:56
With no options in the DOE, I am lucky I have found this school.
5:53:00
My teachers tried to explain to me the difference between public transfer schools and public charter schools and why they get learn to work programs and we don't and it doesn't make any sense to me.
5:53:11
We are all public school students who have chose a transfer school because it was a better fit for our needs.
5:53:19
Urban Dove took me when the DOE wouldn't.
5:53:21
That's a good thing.
5:53:22
Why am I being punished for that?
5:53:24
We believe that charter transfer schools should be allowed to participate in the DOE learn to work programs.
5:53:31
We have been told that might be happening in the future, but not next year.
5:53:35
We are asking the council to step in and provide me and my classmates with the same resources would have gotten through the learn to work program if we were a DOE transfer school.
5:53:46
Thank you.
