Council Member Rivera inquires about the additional $30 million requested for DCLA funding on top of the $45 million baseline increase in the executive budget. DCLA representatives explain that while the $45 million increase is confirmed, they are still open to further negotiations and hope for additional support from the City Council.

  • DCLA has not had additional conversations about the $30 million after the $45 million increase announcement
  • The budget process is described as ongoing, with potential for further adjustments
  • DCLA suggests they left room for the City Council to contribute to the 'best budget ever'

As you know, the council called on the administration in its budget response to include $45,000,000 baseline starting in fiscal twenty twenty six, but the budget does not include the additional $30,000,000 that we also asked for.
2:26:43
Has DCLA had discussions with OMB regarding the additional $30,000,000 for the SIGs and CDFs?
Lauri Cumbo
2:26:52
We have not had additional conversations following the announcement of the additional $45,000,000 that came in for art and culture.
2:27:04
Usually as part of the negotiation process, we partner with the city council and there's an anticipation that the administration will provide a level of support and that also the council would match that level of support in some way either through council funding, initiatives, or member items.
2:27:25
So we are actively looking for that partnership to continue and remain because it's really really critical for organizations to feel that baseline increase through the partnership with the city council.

It's so you're saying that $30,000,000 will not be included in the final budget?
2:27:47
Are you still considering it?
2:27:49
Why why wasn't it included in the executive plan?
Lance Polivy
2:27:53
We are so proud of the fact that the FY '20 '6 executive budget included a $45,000,000 baseline increase for New York City Arts and Culture.
2:28:04
And that was something that only happened because of the groundswell of support from the more than 1,000 organizations that receive CDF funding every year, our 34 CIGs that spoke with one voice so clearly that the number one priority this year was a meaningful and significant baseline increase.
2:28:25
And we are so proud that that was included in the executive budget.
2:28:30
The budget dance is not done.
2:28:32
It continues through the June, and we look forward to ongoing engagement with our arts and culture partners and conversations with council and the administration to arrive at the final budget, which we know will be the best budget ever.
Lauri Cumbo
2:28:49
And we certainly didn't want the city council to feel left out of such a historic investment in art and culture.
2:28:55
So we have left a place for you in order to contribute to the best budget ever and wanted you to Wow.
Carlina Rivera
2:29:02
Thank you.
Lauri Cumbo
2:29:03
Certainly feel included.
Carlina Rivera
2:29:04
Wow.
2:29:04
Thank you so much.
2:29:05
You know, when you dance, you should stretch just in case your partner gives you the runaround.
Lauri Cumbo
2:29:11
But you've got to have a partner.
Carlina Rivera
2:29:13
Right.
