Council Member Gale A. Brewer inquires about the status of federal funding for libraries and potential cuts. Library representatives discuss the current situation and concerns.
- The Institute of Museum and Library Science (IMLS) funding cuts have halted, but funding is episodic and by application
- Major concern is the potential impact of state budget cuts on city funding, which affects library budgets
- E-Rate funding appears stable for now, but there's uncertainty about future federal decisions
Gale A. Brewer

Okay.
1:22:13
So that's good that it hasn't been cut yet.
1:22:15
Right.
1:22:15
So maybe you said this earlier and I didn't, but in terms of the, issue of federal funding, is are there other that could be at jeopardy, or does the federal funding so far seem okay?
Linda Johnson
1:22:27
No.
1:22:27
So there's a there's a number of issues.
1:22:30
There's the Institute of Museum and Library Science
Gale A. Brewer
1:22:32
Major cuts.
1:22:33
Yeah.
Linda Johnson
1:22:34
Those cuts have sort of come to a halt.
1:22:38
They're episodic.
1:22:38
It's not like it's a continued stream from IMLS that funds libraries.
1:22:43
It's it's by application.
1:22:46
But I think the the bigger concern is what happens to the state's budget if and and, you know, as you know all too well, what happens in the state flows down to the city, and what happens in the city flows down to the library.
