Council Member Sandy Nurse presents data on the March 2020 6-A releases and suggests expanding the program given the current jail population situation.

  • In March 2020, about 300 people were released through the 6-A program
  • Only nine of those released were rearrested for any charge
  • Less than 1% (two people) were rearrested for a violent felony
  • The council member suggests expanding the program due to current challenges, including overcrowding and issues with transfers to state facilities

And so this is clearly a a program and a pathway that would work, and I think it would be really great to get that full staff member on in any other capacity that would be needed given the the situation with upstate, inability to transfer, the mental health blockage upstate as well, and then what we have the over, you know, the census population growing.
