Council Member Avilés inquires about the status of contract renewals and extensions for legal service providers under MOIA's new model. MOIA officials provide information on the process and outcomes.
- All current and new vendors starting July 1 have been notified
- Two current providers did not submit proposals for extension
- There will be up to 25 new MOIA centers and 13 extended contracts, totaling 38 centers
- Some overlap exists between extended contracts and new providers
- Full list of providers and locations will be published and shared with council members

were there any providers that were previously funded under Action NYC that did not receive contract renewals under this new model?
Jasniya Sanchez
2:53:07
In terms of contract renewal extensions renewals.
Sophie Dalsimer
2:53:13
Right?
Alexa Avilés
2:53:13
There's the extension and then there's the new model.
Jasniya Sanchez
2:53:16
Under for with regards to the extension, we had conversations with all current providers to propose what that you know, if they were interested in that extension.
2:53:34
All but two providers did not submit proposals.
2:53:42
So in terms of the current legal providers, really just two of them will not be extended for another year because they were not interested in submitting that proposal.
2:53:56
With regards to the new contracts, again because we're still in the process of these contracts being set up, I can't go into, you know, list out the current selections, but that will come in the next couple of weeks.
Alexa Avilés
2:54:14
But are you aware, so in terms of the extensions, two that were not interested, are you aware why they were not interested?
Jasniya Sanchez
2:54:23
We held multiple, know, reached out.
2:54:28
We just do not hear back other than saying that they were not interested at that point in time to submit extension, an extension.
Alexa Avilés
2:54:39
So they did not inform Moya why they were not They posted you.
Raul Rivera
2:54:43
Not specific.
Jasniya Sanchez
2:54:44
Not close to us, but they didn't go into specifics.
Alexa Avilés
2:54:48
Okay.
2:54:49
In terms of the renewals, I so sorry.
2:54:55
In terms of the new contracts, obviously, there was an expansion in the numbers of providers.
2:55:04
I think, commissioner, you mentioned up to 25 in this new provider list.
2:55:11
Essentially, the money hasn't increased in that pool.
2:55:14
Are those contracts significantly smaller?
Manuel Castro
2:55:19
So to clarify on the numbers, of the baseline funding, we'll establish 25, let's call them Moya centers, in the next fiscal year starting July 1.
2:55:31
Together with the extension of contracts, we'll have another 13, which amounts to 38 Moya centers across New York City.
2:55:41
Once we have that full list, we'll be publishing that online.
2:55:44
We'll make sure council members have that full list and we'll let you know if any of these centers are located in your district so you're aware of services available there.
Alexa Avilés
2:55:57
So there's no overlap between the extensions and the providers, the new providers under the new contract.
2:56:03
There's no overlap there?
Jasniya Sanchez
2:56:06
There will be some overlap, and we will be sharing that in the next couple weeks again.
2:56:11
Because some of these contracts are still in the beginning stages.
Alexa Avilés
2:56:14
Right.
2:56:15
In the process.
Sherrieann Rembert
2:56:15
Right.
2:56:16
But then
Jasniya Sanchez
2:56:16
there will be some overlap.
Alexa Avilés
2:56:18
I would imagine unless unless you secretly grew providers overnight, there has to be overlap there.
2:56:25
So that's what we're interested in understanding.
