  • The NYPD currently has over 1,300 uniformed vacancies and 1,600 civilian vacancies.
  • OMB has approved the hiring of 3,500 officers this year.
  • 911 operators are exempt from hiring freezes, and OMB has been approving all NYPD staffing requests.

Let's talk a little bit about NYPD headcount.
0:28:13
In order to get a handle on the rampant usage of overtime, the commissioner stated that one of her strategies was to have as many uniformed officers on the streets.
0:28:24
The NYPD's budgeted uniform headcount is currently 35,000 with over 1,300 vacancies.
0:28:31
There are also over 1,600 civilian vacancies including key titles like nine eleven operators.

What is the plan to fill these vacancies and what role has OMB played in helping the NYPD fill vacancies to be fully staffed to its budgeted headcount?
Jacques Jiha

We currently are working with the NYPD to make sure that they got all the resources that they need.
0:28:53
We gave them approval I believe to hire 3,500 officers this year.
0:29:02
Same thing with the nine one one operators because they are exempt from their hiring fees.
0:29:09
So it's just a question of, and we've been approving all the requests that they have sent us so far.
