Good evening, Charter Review Commission.
2:04:21
My name is Sarah Penenberg, and I'm here on behalf of the SEIU local thirty two b j.
2:04:26
Thirty two b j is the largest union for property service workers in the country representing over a 70,000 members in 13 states, including tens of thousands of commercial property service workers, security officers, airport workers, and residential building staff in New York City.
2:04:47
Thirty two b j believes that the city ULIB's process is a vital democratic process through which our community members and groups, including labor unions, have the opportunity to engage with developers and shape that projects and help shape New York City.
2:05:06
Through decades of involvement in the city's EULER process, our union has been able to defend hard won industry standards and benefits and to educate the real estate industry and legislators about the importance of creating good jobs in the property service sector.
2:05:23
At the same time, our union understands the urgency of New York City's housing crisis, and we recognize that confronting this huge crisis and the importance of this for our leadership and policymakers, advancing solutions to to to facilitate the productions of hundreds of thousands of new homes of housings as soon as possible.
2:05:45
We are hopeful to the Charter Commission in considering amendments to the Euler process and the commission's proposal to balance the pressure needed to build more housing with the importance of preserving and representing this democracy in this reviewing process.
