Commissioner Lisette Nieves highlights several points: the need to increase capacity at the Mayor's Office of Contract Services (MOCS) to ensure timely payments to nonprofits, the valuable role of nonprofits in delivering city services, and the importance of housing affordability and fair share.

She stresses that while the nonprofit sector's significant role is a strength for the city, these organizations should not bear undue financial burdens due to inefficient city processes.

The goal is not just affordable housing but also other types of housing.

  • Nieves advocates for bolstering MOCS to improve the processing of payments to vital nonprofit partners.
  • She affirms that nonprofits are crucial to the city's fabric, but their contributions should be supported by efficient city systems.
  • The commission's work on housing should address both affordability and the broader need for various housing types.

I think the second thing is when we're talking about contractors, one thing that came up in some of our talks that we had too is that we don't wanna see, obviously, the the opportunity costs are we have dollar signs related to that to what nonprofits are taking on.
0:45:08
Right?
0:45:09
The challenge the challenge is also that we wanna make sure that there's increased capacity at mocks to support to support getting these documents out, right, these payments out.
0:45:19
And we can't ignore that either in this process.
0:45:21
So I I just wanna put that there.
0:45:23
And then the the last thing is to I think there's no question, Sarvina said this, but that we have enormous levels of nonprofit that are taking on the role in what other cities would consider city services.
0:45:36
I actually think that's what makes this city great.
0:45:39
I wouldn't change that.
0:45:40
I think that that's an important piece, but that requires us to be much more cognizant of the fact that we're we're we're making them pay a price for this that they shouldn't have to be paying.
0:45:52
So anything we can do to expedite that.
0:45:54
And and I I do wanna add one last thing.
0:45:57
As a lifelong New Yorker, you know, this piece around affordability is really important.
0:46:06
And and this piece about fair share is really important.
0:46:10
And I think those pieces came out clear in there, but this isn't just about affordability.
0:46:17
This is also about building other housing as well too.
0:46:20
But I just wanna, like, acknowledge the fact that you guys did work on that piece, and I appreciate that.
0:46:25
So thank you.
