Chair Richard R. Buery Jr. asks the representatives from SEIU Local 32BJ for specific changes to the land use review process they would support to address the affordable housing crisis.
Candis Tall responds that the most important thing for the union is retaining the ability for the public to have a say in the process through their elected officials.
She emphasizes that taking away the voice of the elected person responsible to the voters removes the public's ability to impact the final decision.

I I have a quick question.
1:10:47
I I appreciate the framing, including, miss Tull, sort of starting by acknowledging the affordable housing crisis.

Obviously, we are limited to, we are limited to the charter in terms of our ability to make changes, although there may be other things that would help the program.

I I appreciate your objections to the current proposal, but I'm wondering, are there specific changes to EULRP that you would support in an effort to address what you acknowledge as an affordable housing?

I think possibly we would love to see, you know, different options.
1:11:22
I think the important thing for us and for most working people and most New Yorkers is ability to have a say in the process.
1:11:29
And when you have no elected person who's responsible to their voters making the decision, it takes away our our voice and our ability to impact the decision that's ultimately made.
