Today, I would like to introduce, introduction 11:49.
1:29:19
This bill will require a department of sanitation, to provide adequate supply of water while street sweepers in operation.
1:29:30
Unless the Commissioner of Environmental Protection will determine that there is a water shortage supply or emergency.
1:29:37
And I believe it is very important because several times street sweepers in New York City are cleaning the streets without water in their tanks, creating large dust clouds.
1:29:47
I personally witnessed it several times.
1:29:50
This poses a significant challenge for pedestrians, especially those with asthma and respiratory diseases, as the dust can exuberate their health issues and make difficult for them to navigate the streets safely.
1:30:04
Also, I would like to express my deepest condolences to the family of 15 years old Markel.
1:30:10
This boy drowned last week on a section of Coney Island beach without lifeguards.
1:30:16
And we need to do much better as a city to recruit more lifeguards.
1:30:20
So likely we need to increase our salaries and also we need to do much bigger effort to have more free swimming courses everywhere, and to recruit them.
1:30:29
My heart goes out to the community, but we cannot have large sections of the beach, not just in Coney Island, but all over the city without lifeguards.
1:30:38
And finally, would like to mention another tragedy.
1:30:40
15 years old boy who emigrated from, his family emigrated from Samarkand, Uzbekistan, Faridun Mallonov was killed simply walking on a peaceful Belsenkir Street in the middle of the day.
1:30:53
So again, we need to increase number of police officers.
1:30:55
We need to fight for bigger, better public safety in New York City.
1:31:00
And again, my condolences to the community, and I hope that perpetrator will be arrested very soon and will face justice.
1:31:06
Thank you.
