Council Member Sandy Nurse introduces three new bills she is seeking support for. The bills focus on increasing transparency around homeless sweeps, mandating the creation of more public toilets, and supporting food production and distribution in industrial areas.

  • Intro 1153 aims to provide more transparency on the practices and costs of homeless sweeps and removals.
  • Intro 1154 mandates the city to create more public toilets, with a goal of one toilet per 2,000 people by 2035.
  • Intro 1152 requires the city to support food production and distribution hubs in industrial areas to increase food system resilience.

Sorry, I wasn't organized.
1:17:53
Okay.
1:17:55
Today I'm introducing three bills I'm seeking your support on.
1:17:58
The first is intro eleven fifty three with council member Hanif, is a reporting bill to provide more transparency around the practices and costs involved with homeless sweeps and other removals.
1:18:09
Not only are homeless sweeps deeply counterproductive and ineffective, they are expensive, dangerous, and most importantly, they often result in civil and human rights violations.
1:18:21
Secondly, Intro eleven fifty four, a bathroom bill that complements the work of council member Rita Joseph's bill, and mandates the city to, among other things, set a goal of creating one toilet per every 2,000 people by 02/1935, identify public and private sites that can be utilized for public toilets, and create a public map of existing and planned toilets with their design features.
1:18:45
And lastly, with council member Kaban, intro eleven fifty two would require the city to support access to our underutilized industrial areas for food production and distribution hubs, and related industrial food activities in order to increase the resiliency of our localized food system.
1:19:02
As the pandemic and other natural disasters have made clear, we must make concrete step towards increasing food security and resiliency in New York City.
1:19:10
I hope to have your support on all three bills and look forward to discussing them with you all.

Thank you.
