Council Member Althea Stevens discusses the future collaboration and increasing awareness of the Department of Youth & Community Development's work. She emphasizes the importance of leveraging virtual briefings and involving all city council members in yearly community needs assessments. Stevens and Deputy Commissioner Mike Bobbitt address the challenge of maintaining interest from local elected officials and the potential to use city programs to uplift DYCD's underpromoted services. This conversation underscores the need to elevate DYCD’s profile and prepare for the upcoming community assessment.

And so I just wanna leave that with you guys to be able to talk about what the collaboration can look like moving forward.
Speaker 3
1:21:35
Thank you for that.
1:21:37
Final question.
1:21:38
I I think some of the things that we talked about briefly, we should really invest in return to it that the virtual briefing was excellent.
1:21:46
I think we wanna routinize that.
1:21:48
I think anecdotally, and I wanted the council members, I won't point to any particular local elected official.
1:21:57
I think at times people seem very excited about the work, and then I'm not always clear as to why they lose interest, but I would like for us, for our part, for us to continue to be consistent I agree with your chair that even though these programs have relatively less funding or smaller funding than some of the city tax, they're they're important programs, and we are looking to maximally leverage the the work that they can do.
1:22:22
It has always made sense to me.
1:22:24
Commissioner Howard refers to CD as the other side of the house, so we do all this youth work.
1:22:29
The work here that we do with adolescents adults, older adults, is really very handing glove.
1:22:34
So if we can work together to share that message.
1:22:39
We're a year away from doing a whole other community assessment.
1:22:42
So let's see what we can do to really continue to raise the the profile.
1:22:48
And as always, we're happy to share the impacts that we think we're having.
Speaker 1
1:22:52
Yeah.
1:22:53
Definitely thinking about we are a year out from the community needs assessments, which definitely excited to be a part of again and make sure that we get it out.
1:23:01
But I think that that's one step in using this year to kinda get people up to date on what the community assessment is so that when we do launch it, my office isn't the only one.
1:23:10
Do what service?
1:23:11
Right?
1:23:12
And so thinking about how do we make sure that in a year, all 51 members know about it and a part of it, all the state elected are part of it and know about it and thinking about what we can do to do that.
1:23:24
And, also, a lot of these price points are low because it does have to so that means they are going to be attached to some of the other things and work that's going on throughout the city as far as programming.
1:23:34
So thinking about how do we use those programs to also uplift this work as well, because it is very much needed.
1:23:40
And you guys are one of the secrets in in aycd that no one kinda talks about but I told you I wasn't gonna forget about you.
Speaker 3
1:23:50
Yes.
1:23:50
Thank you for spilling the beans.
Speaker 1
1:23:52
I did.
1:23:53
Listen.
1:23:53
You know, sometimes you open that door and you're like, alright.
1:23:55
Close it because I don't want people to know what we're over here doing.
1:23:59
But council member Williams has another question, and then we'll go to the panel.
1:24:03
Yeah.
