QUESTION

Why hasn't a mechanical broom serviced certain areas for nearly 20 days, and how does the credit system in the sweep application work?

The Department of Sanitation is refining its application to only credit mechanical broom services within regulated times and is adjusting routes and resources to ensure full coverage.

  • Application refinements are made to credit sweeper activities only within regulated times.
  • Weekly reviews are conducted to assess service statistics and make necessary route adjustments.
  • Additional resources, such as extra equipment, are deployed to address service gaps.
  • Planned application tweaks aim to improve schedule adherence and increase transparency for residents.
  • Operations are adjusted for efficiency, with sweepers servicing open blocks outside regulated times for expedited route completion.

And then lastly, I was really excited to see the sweep NYC page roll out.
0:39:32
It already was, like, yielding results.
0:39:34
I was breakfast with a friend the other day, and we pulled up her address.
0:39:39
And on 25th February, her when she put when she entered in her address, it showed that a broom had not been to her address since January 29th.
0:39:52
Which was an incredible amount of time given she had to move her car nearly eight times between that.
0:39:58
And so just curious, why why that would happen?
0:40:02
I know we had a couple snow days, so I understand that calculation.
0:40:05
But how can it be almost 20 days in a mechanical broom doesn't even pass by.
Javier Lohan
0:40:11
So one of the things that we are looking to refine with that app So there's a internal app that feeds that app.
0:40:18
One of the things that is that that's great about the app, and thank you for that, is looking at routes where we historically had issues in.
0:40:27
A lot of times, if we traverse a segment outside of the segment time, we shouldn't get credit for And in the past, we might have gotten credit for it internally.
0:40:36
Those are one of the things that we have looked at, and we look at closely every week.
0:40:41
So every week, we bring barrel commanders down along with the district superintendent.
0:40:46
And we pull up their stats and percentages, and, obviously, everything should be a 100%.
0:40:51
Every everybody should get services.
0:40:52
You do have to move your cars.
0:40:54
We should come down and sweep.
0:40:56
Right?
0:40:56
And there are times we're noticing challenges, and we're adjusting routes as necessary.
0:41:01
And in some cases, we have to add additional resources whether it's, you know, having another piece of equipment go into the route, but it is one of those things, and I will be glad to take that information.
UNKNOWN
0:41:12
I'll I'll
Sandy Nurse
0:41:12
give you the screenshot of it.
0:41:13
But I just what do you can you just break down what you mean by the credit.
0:41:17
Like, I I didn't I missed I didn't understand.
Javier Lohan
0:41:20
So so so each segment is as every block has a unique segment.
0:41:24
I Right?
0:41:25
Yeah.
0:41:26
Each of our sweepers have GPS devices.
0:41:28
When the sweeper goes down the block, it GPS ping goes to satellite, and then internally we get it in in our application.
0:41:35
Right?
0:41:36
Previously, you could have gone down a segment at any time of day, and we would have said, okay, you went down.
0:41:42
And got credit for it, but that was that was not that was incorrect.
0:41:46
That was not the way it should be.
0:41:47
It should be only within the posted regulated time.
0:41:50
So now that you know, we've refined our application.
0:41:53
If let's say you have a 9:30 AM to 11 AM sweep, if our sweeper doesn't go down that block at that time, We're not gonna we're we don't wanna take credit for it.
0:42:02
We wanna make sure you're getting down within that segmented time.
0:42:05
So that's what I meant by.
Sandy Nurse
0:42:06
Okay.
0:42:06
So it that their the broom might have gone down the street just not in that window.
0:42:11
Yeah.
Javier Lohan
0:42:11
And and one of the things to know council member is that there are times where operationally our equipment, like the sweepers, if the if the block is open, the sweeper will go down the block if it's before the pose of time because it helps them get through the roots quicker.
Sandy Nurse
0:42:25
Right.
Javier Lohan
0:42:25
So that those might be instances.
0:42:27
I'm not saying that's the case there, but those might be instances where we find where, like, You're not going down the posted regulation time, but, you know, you're not getting credit for it in in this application.
0:42:37
So but there might be different reasons for it, and we would definitely I would love to look at that and and know exactly.
Shaun Abreu
0:42:42
So
Sandy Nurse
0:42:42
will there be tweaks to it?
0:42:43
I'm done.
0:42:43
Will there be tweaks to it?
Shaun Abreu
0:42:45
Yeah.
0:42:45
Yeah.
Sandy Nurse
0:42:45
Yeah.
0:42:46
So that Actually, I think it would be even if it's not within the time, I think for someone to be like, what the hell?
0:42:51
I haven't had my street swept for 20 days.
0:42:54
Even for them to know, okay, it was outside.
0:42:56
I still had to move my car, and I'm pissed.
0:42:58
Right.
0:42:58
But, like, at least this this happened, you know, I think, would be helpful.
Javier Lohan
0:43:02
Yeah.
0:43:02
No.
0:43:02
It's And there are tweaks that we we're looking to do.
0:43:04
I I think the the main issue we wanna fix is if there's any routing issues Yeah.
0:43:08
Because we wanna make sure all the routes are completed on schedule.
0:43:10
So that's when I think we're gonna look 1st.
Sandy Nurse
0:43:12
Thank you.
0:43:12
Thank you, Chad.
Joshua Goodman
0:43:13
So just to add really fast on that topic that the time period you're describing included 3 snowstorms that led to ask you.
Sandy Nurse
0:43:19
Yes.
0:43:19
I acknowledge this no days in my election election.
Joshua Goodman
0:43:22
New Year's Eve, Lunar New Year's Day, Lincoln's birthday, Ash Wednesday, and Presidents' Day.
0:43:27
So depending on what the frequency is for that block, it is possible that they had no ASP throughout that entire Yeah.
0:43:33
3 week period.
Sandy Nurse
0:43:33
That's a long time.
Joshua Goodman
0:43:35
We don't like to cancel ASP if we don't.
