New York City utilizes a robust citywide immunization registry to track and share vaccination records among schools, ensuring children are vaccinated as per requirements.

  • The Department of Education (DOE) monitors school vaccination requirements compliance through their system.
  • All vaccines administered in the city are recorded in the citywide immunization registry, accessible by the DOE to verify a child's vaccination status.
  • Vaccination records from outside the city can be manually entered into the registry by healthcare providers.
  • The registry is accessible to any provider in the city, and individuals can retrieve their or their children’s vaccination records online.
  • The system promotes transparency and accessibility, making it easy for families to check vaccination records through the 'my vaccine record' online feature.

And how are the the vaccination schedules for children tracked, especially in the light of the fact that many are routinely being moved around the city to different locations and school districts?
0:30:29
Do the records travel with them?
0:30:32
And what follow-up does the agency conduct with families to ensure that the children are fully vaccinated prior to attending school?

Sure.
0:30:39
So DOE tracks the compliance with the school requirements within their system.

Luckily, we have a really robust city wide immunization registry that I spoke a little bit about earlier, which is a really truly incredible system that we're very lucky to have.
0:30:55
You know, any vaccine that's administered within New York City is going into the city wide immunization registry.
0:31:01
The DOE's system is able to query the city wide immunization registry to see if that child has received a vaccine administered in within New York City.
0:31:09
We are also work with providers and encourage them to take documentation of vaccines that were administered outside New York City and manually enter them into CIR though that those records can be there.
0:31:20
And like I mentioned in the testimony, once the vaccines are in CIR, it's now available to any provider in your city that has access to CIR to see if the child has had the vaccine.
0:31:29
And more importantly, anybody can go on to my vaccine record and get their own record or that of their young child.
0:31:36
And I really encourage people to check out this feature because it's surprisingly easy.

Okay.

Great.
